Makeshift Weaponry

He aimed more carefully, taking longer to line up this shot. His eyes narrowed, and he focused like he never had before. And then he released the arrow. This time, it hit. Perhaps it was due to a mere stroke of luck, or newly-awakened instinct from the recycled code of some long-forgotten android, or even the machinations of fate, if such a thing existed. but whatever the cause, Wheatley hit his mark – not in the center, granted, but to hit it at all on only his fifth attempt was accomplishment enough.

He turned back to Chell with a proud grin. “Did- did you see that? I- I actually did it! I didn’t know I could do that, honestly! I hit the target! Me, of all people!” And he started to laugh – for the first time since becoming human, he laughed, not with nervousness but with joy. Chell couldn’t help but smile right back. Well, this might work out after all. Good job, Wheatley. Good job.

Since THIS PROJECT, that’s when! I want to illustrate the fics I’ve enjoyed, and this is one of the few fics featuring human!Wheatley that I have fully enjoyed. This fic handles human!Wheatley in a way I don’t normally see fics handle the concept, which is one of many reasons why I like it so much. Seriously, check it out!

I wanted to illustrate the scene where Chell teaches Wheatley to use a makeshift bow and arrow (using turret legs as the arrows) and it proved to be quite the challenge. Due to the pose, space was an issue, and I wound up redrawing the thing four times before I could finally get it to fit on the page. But I did it, and I’m happy!
